BE A LIGHT is a company devoted to presenting the unique work of husband and wife team Mikael Carstanjen and Mary Doering. They have developed a special gift for capturing nature's beauty and translating these images into creative designs and unusual formats. Many of the flowers depicted in the photographs are grown at their home on Cape Cod while others are collected on their travels along the East Coast from Maine to Florida. As photographers their goal is to share the wonder and joy they experience every time they look through a camera lens. In the series called FLOWER PORTRAITS, the photos move past the ordinary into the poetic. The soft blurs of color and the strong sculptural appearance of the petal forms connect to the eternal and universal rhythms of nature. Each floral portrait is photographed in a natural setting to reveal the flower's stunning beauty. The KALEIDOSCOPES series is generated from pure play. Here Mary combines her visual curiosity with computer technology to create new, totally fresh designs. The process begins with an original photograph that is scanned into the computer. The image is then reconstructed and the results are magical. The final photograph retains the luminous beauty of the flower or tree it represents. |
